Sri Lanka’s mangrove ecosystems are under serious threat from development and pollution. The Small Fishers Federation of Lanka (Sudeesa) and Seacology have established the Kiralakele Mangrove Resource Center and Biological Garden in southern Sri Lanka. Seacology will help Sudeesa establish a library of at least 5,000 books, research papers, and reports. It will also contain a computer facility with internet access. The grant will also fund an aquarium to display animals that live in mangrove habitats, and a center with multimedia displays.
