Mangroves

This project protects mangroves, which trap more CO2 than any other kind of forest and as a result, slow global warming.

After a tsunami caused severe damage in Samoa in 2009, some villages were forced to move away from the shore. Community members also had to clean up debris in mangrove areas and inshore reef. Seacology funded clean-up efforts as well as some replanting and the purchase of water tanks for families moving inland.
